Retrieve rev./tag/branch is very slow

( CVSSCC , VS .NET, 1.3.x, WIN 2000/XP, CVS NT 2.x <= 2.0.51  )

We make some experiments on our side. It seems that better leave it as
is. Actually the main problem for you not the many source files, but
the lot of tags. It seems that they all have the strong names, and not
hard to type them as needed. More other, used tags are stored, and
next time you can select tag from combo.
While the option to fetch tags not recursively will not show them for
many cases, which is more bad, as we think.

Just keep in mind that I had to stop it after 45 minutes. I actually
had to open task manager and end the VS.Net process.
Maybe we could have an option to only read the tags from the top module.
I think that's what Tortoise must be doing (not sure).
Thanks,
Chris Tinsley

Actually each file in CVS _can_ have it's own tag. Nowere exist list of all
tags. To find all we should check all files and all possible tags.
This is true. May be exist some other way to check this, for example
to check only the top folder files and so on. But this method not
return all possible tags.
I will check the log, to check are there any errors or not.

I let it run for 45mins. It spiked my CPU to 100% the entire time. I
checked the CVS server; it seemed to be at fairly normal resource
utilization. We use an automated build server which tags the modules on
each successful build. This creates a lot of tags; however, I can use
tortoise to get the tags, and it only takes a few seconds. I think your
process is going through each tag on each file. If that's true, is it
necessary?
Thanks,
Chris Tinsley
debuglog.zip

Here it is: http://www.pushok.com/files/PushokCVSSCC_13.zip
Downlod it, unpcak the dll to overwrite existing. Repeat the problem. Then
send the debuglog.txt back to me.

Yes
--> Igor Pushkov (admin)  at 08 Apr 05 04:00 writes

Can you produce for us debuglog if I sent the debug dll?
--> Chris (user)  at 30 Mar 05 03:00 writes

Actually, it appears the I can type in the branch name now. That issue was
resolved in 1.3. However, the other issue is still there. If you click
the ... button, it pegs the CPU for a very, very, very long time. I
haven't had the patience to let it complete yet. As it takes well over 30
minutes for me.
--> Chris (user)  at 30 Mar 05 03:00 writes

The \"...\" button that retrievs the tag/branch names takes forever on a
system with a lot of tags. The same operation with TortoiseCVS takes only
a few seconds. Additionally, you can\'t type in the rev./tag/branch name
if it\'s longer than the dropdown\'s length.
