Required SVN Patches

( SVNSCC )
Type: Public Status:Closed Created: 10 May 05 05:00 Updated: 12 May 05 05:00
--> Igor Pushkov (admin)  at 12 May 05 05:00 writes

I am understand your concerns. Probably it will be better to make this
more clear. Thank you.
--> Shvets (user)  at 12 May 05 05:00 writes

The only problem I had was that the message on your download page
http://www.pushok.com/soft_download.php?idprogram=3 does not really tell me
that I dont need those patches if I just use Visual Studio. It suggests
that the patches are mandatory, and it does not explain how I can find out
if I am affected by the problems that exist in SVN.

Maybe you should rephrase your statement to make clearer that none of the
patches are required for work with Visual Studio. (It is also a potential
sales block for svn_proxy, since not everyone is willing to produce a
patches version of SVN. It is so much more convenient to download it from
tigris.org in a precompiled version).

As far as I am concerned, you can close this case now.
--> Igor Pushkov (admin)  at 12 May 05 05:00 writes

I just suggest to move your problem in some concrete direction. What
problem do you have currently? May be you have some other SVN GUI and
want to patch it? Or there some problems because version of SVN client
which currently shipped with plug-in?
--> Igor Pushkov (admin)  at 12 May 05 05:00 writes

Well, this is long story, but our plug-in not require any of mentioned
patches. It removes any read only flags before calling any svn and
restores (if needed) after. That is because initially we not plan to
make patches in SVN.
Patches are required only for external clients (like Tortoise).
--> Shvets (user)  at 12 May 05 05:00 writes

Just to verify:

The version of svn that is included in C:\Programme\PushOk Software\SVN
Proxy\svn and that appearently is a 1.10 version (./svn.svn.exe --version)
and that is internally used by svn_proxy does not contain the required
patches (which i would find surprising, since you deliver it with pushok)?

--> Igor Pushkov (admin)  at 12 May 05 05:00 writes

Actually in day or two we will release beta version of SVN SCC 1.2, which
is orinted to SVN 1.2 (wich is in RC2 stage now).
SVN 1.2 not require one of our patches, as it was promised. It can normally
work if files are read-only.
Also it contain some other features that we suggest to make, for example it
faster work with "update file1 file2 ... fileN" command. And what is more
impornat it can perform strict file lock (or exlusive checkout).
So to answer to your questions:
1. We will not patch new versions of SVN at 1.1.x branch. SVN development
rule is that there no serious (functionality) changes in current release
and these are mostly security changes, which are not important for client
(our plug-in or Tortoise)
2. New functionality and part of our aptches are in place in SVN 1.2.
--> Shvets (user)  at 10 May 05 05:00 writes

I also see that you are delivering your own 1.10 version of the svn client
with svn proxy. I suppose that the necessary patches are included?!? When
do you plan to upgrade to 1.14 or later?
--> Shvets (user)  at 10 May 05 05:00 writes

On your Webpage you state that certain modification to SVN are required,
and that you believe that they will be included in future SVN release. Your
statement concerns SVN 1.10, we are currently at 1.14

The issue I found on the subversion web page is
http://subversion.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=1993,

and there is no indication if this was included since august 2004.

Could you verify what happened?
